Can white clothing protect you from the sun?
Ever heard wearing white helps protect against skin damage, by reflecting sunlight? Well, a new Australian study found white clothing – like a cotton t‑shirt – is the equivalent of SPF 7 sunscreen… which means, it blocks less than a tenth of the sun’s harmful UV rays. And if your white clothing gets wet, your UV protection gets cut in half.
Bottom line: Always use sunscreen, even if you’re decked out head-to-toe in white.
