Do mosquitoes really like you?
Here’s why you may be a mosquito magnet, according to Dr. Jonathan Day, professor of medical entomology at the University of Florida:
First: Mosquitoes are highly attracted to carbon dioxide, which they can sense from up to 60 feet away. And every time we exhale, we release carbon dioxide… but some of us release a lot more. So, try talking less, to reduce your C‑O‑2 footprint.
Mosquitoes are also attracted to lactic acid – a compound that builds up in our muscles after a tough workout. So, try not to exercise before an outdoor barbecue.
Finally: Be careful what you wear. If you have on dark colors during the day, or bright colors at night, you’ll stand out, and become more of a mosquito magnet.
