Going for a drive? Put your phone on silent. Because just having the phone ring, even if you don't answer, is a distraction! According to the Journal of Environmental Psychology, that’s because we’re so programmed to reach for our phone to see who’s calling it hijacks our thought process – even if we don't pick up. And that takes our attention off the road, making us more likely to miss a pedestrian stepping off the curb, or the idiot about to run a red light right through the middle of our left turn. So, to stay safer behind the wheel, leave your phone on silent.
